"Eight-Year-Old Alice... Died On Streets": Ukraine First Lady's Open Letter

Kiev, Ukraine: Ukrainian First Lady, Olena Zelenska, on Tuesday condemned the “mass killing” Kremlin, including children, in open letters to global media about Russian invasion.

In a passionate statement, Zelenska said that the Russian invasion to Ukraine “could not be trusted.

“On February 24, we all woke up for the announcement of the Russian invasion,” he wrote.

“The tank crossed the Ukrainian border, the plane entered our airspace, missile launchers surround our cities.

“Apart from the guarantee of the propaganda outlet supported by the Kremlin, which calls this ‘special operation’ – it is, in fact, the mass killings of Ukrainian civilians.”

He chose victims of children as “probably the most frightening and destroying”, naming some of them killed.

“Alice is eight years old … died on the streets of Okhtyrka while her grandfather tried to protect him,” he said. “Polina from Kyiv … died in shooting with his parents.”

He added: “Arseniy 14 years old was hit in the head with debris, and could not be saved because the ambulance could not take it on time because of an intense fire.

“When Russia said that it was’ not doing a war against civilians,” I called the names of children who were killed first, “he said.

‘Close our sky’

Volodymyr Zelensky’s president has been praised for his war speech, and Zelenska has a writing background for comedy production companies.

The message focuses on the suffering of civilians because millions of people have left their homes to escape from Russian military attacks.

“This war is being built against civilians, and not only through shooting,” he stressed.

“Our road is flooded with refugees,” he said.

“Look at the eyes of women and tired children who take the pain and hurt leaving loved ones and living when they know it.”

He quotes the problem of getting vital medical care.

“How easy it is to inject insulin in the basement? Or to get asthma medicine under a big fire?” He asked.

“Not to mention thousands of cancer patients with essential access to chemotherapy and radiation treatment have now been postponed without time limit.”

He called for “those in power to cover our sky”. NATO has ruled out the zone without flies.

Zelenska, 44, has two children with her husband, a former comedy actor.

He has pioneered a campaign to eat better schools and has accompanied Zelensky on an international journey, meeting Prince William and his wife Catherine in England in 2020.
