New Delhi: A woman with physical disability claims that a popular restaurant in Gurgaon refuses the entry because it will “disturb other customers”. Srishti Pandey, in a long Twitter thread, said that he visited the place with his best friend and his family on Friday on one of the “first long roads.” However, “WHOURCHAIR Andar Nahi Jaygi (wheelchair will not go inside)” Allegedly the reply he got from the staff at the restaurant front desk.
Restaurant management, Raasta, located in DLF Cyberhub Gurugram, has apologized for the incident and said that they took steps internally to improve sensitivity and empathy for their staff.
“We were very sorry for the episode that took place at Raasta Gurgaon on Friday night. We stand up for inclusiveness and will never want anyone who feels chosen for any reason. As part of our efforts, we have reached the protector that is harmed to apologize to them . We are also taking steps internally to improve the sensitivity and empathy for our staff to make sure this never happens again, “Goumtesh Singh, a founding partner at Raasta, said in a posting.
Ms. Pandey, in his utens, alleged that at first he thought it was a “accessibility problem” but he was “stung” when the staff at the restaurant suggested that his presence could disturb other customers.
“He told us to point to me that ‘Andar customers interfere with Hojayenge’ (customers will be disturbed) and deny our entry, very easily. It comes from a strange luxury place staff,” he tweeted.
He further said that they were then made to sit outside “after a lot of arguing”. “The seat outside is ridiculous. It gets colder. And I can’t sit in cold weather because my body becomes spastic. Literally not safe for me,” he said.
“I’m broken hearted. It’s sad. And I feel disgusted,” said Ms Pandey.
Gurugram police also respond to his tweets who are looking for contact details for further action.
