Google Workspace users will face Chat migration from Hangouts in March

Collect, Hangout fans – your day all know will be close to. Google has slowly basked one of the many messaging efforts, with chat (service, not backend RCS) functions as a substitute. When we continued to roll over 2022, there was not much time left in the Hangouts transition timeline. Today’s updates from Google gave us a few difficult dates when the user will go to the world of conversation.

According to the workspace blog post, the company is now ready to move the hangout to its last phase, following the opt-out migration efforts last summer. Starting March 22, all users will automatically have “preference chat” enabled in their settings if not. This Toggle establishes chat as your account default application for messaging, directing hangouts in Gmail and Hangouts mobile applications to newer services. Not like the previous stage, you can’t choose out of this step – after it’s finished, finish.

The start date for this transition depends on your workspace admin settings. Those who have chat and Classic Hangout are activated will see this change for three weeks starting March 22, while Hangouts Classic only users will have until April 4, after that the transition will take up to five weeks. After this setting switches to the chat is preferred, only Hangouts.google.com will remain activated.

It should be noted this special step is exclusive for workspace users. Personal accounts have their own timeline to be faced, although there are no difficult dates. Last August, non-workspace users began to see banners inviting them to try chatting. We will not be surprised to see the accounts following carefully behind this step.

Hangouts have faded from the public eye for a while now, starting with the introduction of the Allo application (failed to die) in 2016. While Google is largely centered on several different messaging methods, the inheritance of confusing strategies and overlaps continues to be a factor in the battle against the platform Like WhatsApp and iMessage
